Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on February 20 that European countries were in a "state of absolute humiliation" outside the negotiating table on Ukraine.

"There is a table. There are people sitting behind it, some papers, dishes on it, someone is already approaching, moving away, something is happening, and they find themselves, even the most terrible thing, probably not in another room. And the most terrible thing is that they are really under the table, in a state of absolute humiliation," Zakharova said in an interview with Vesti.

The diplomat stressed that European countries had previously participated in the negotiations, but had rejected the Minsk agreements themselves.

"They went to this trick, this maneuver, this deception only in order to rearm the Kiev regime, so their return to the negotiating table depends on how well they know how to behave at this table. It depends on how they are generally perceived at this table," she added.

Zakharova reported on February 19 that the claims that only the United States was able to "bring Russia and Ukraine to the negotiating table" are incorrect. She explained that the conflict in Ukraine continues to be supported by the United States through the supply of weapons to Kiev, while various countries offered assistance in organizing negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. In 2022, several rounds of consultations were held in Belarus, then via video link, and later in Turkey, including a meeting of delegations in Istanbul on March 29.
