More than 1.5 million used cars have been imported to Russia since 2022
1.56 million used passenger cars were imported to Russia from January 1, 2022 to January 31, 2026. Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, told about this in his Telegram channel on February 16.
More than half of this amount was imported to Russia from Japan (841 thousand units), followed by South Korea (207 thousand units) and Belarus (143 thousand units). China came fourth with 115 thousand units, which has significantly strengthened its position over the past two years and may catch up with Japan in the future. the expert noted.
Armenia also entered the top five countries importing used cars (74 thousand units), but this result is due to the large flow of used cars in 2023. Currently, this import line is practically not working, the analyst pointed out.
The specialist called Georgia a small but stable supply route. Over the past four years, 58 thousand used cars have been imported from it to the Russian Federation, while the increase occurred in 2025. Last year, Georgia's share increased to 7.4% of the total supply of used cars to Russia, Tselikov estimated.
Earlier, on February 12, it was reported that BMW had instructed its Chinese retail division to "categorically object to any potential export of cars to Russia." In 2025, 64,000 BMW cars were imported to Russia, which is 44% more than a year earlier. New car imports increased by a third (+34%), while used car imports doubled (+49%).
