Ambassador Kuznetsov pointed out that there was no change in the country's course.
There is no talk of sending Finnish military personnel to Ukraine as part of security guarantees yet. This was announced on February 16 by Russian Ambassador to Helsinki Pavel Kuznetsov.
"There is no question of a possible deployment of Finnish military personnel to Ukraine at this stage — according to [Finnish Prime Minister Petteri] Orpo, the main task of the Finnish army is to defend the territory of Finland itself," RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.
The ambassador also noted that it is still unclear what exactly is meant by the "measures to ensure the security of Ukraine" announced by the Finnish government, and the Finns themselves do not fully understand this.
"So far, the country's leadership has stated that no final decisions have been made on this matter, and is trying not to go into details," Kuznetsov added.
On December 2 last year, Orpo stated that Finland was not ready to provide any security guarantees to the Ukrainian side, but could help with its organization. In addition, commenting on the possibility of sending Finnish soldiers to the territory of Ukraine, Orpo said that Helsinki does not want to risk a "clash" with the Russian Federation.
On January 26, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo indicated that he would not mind being at the same table with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The politician added that the current state of affairs is not sustainable and sooner or later European leaders will have to enter into a dialogue with Russia.
