OMON Ostrog officers are effectively fighting against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by Ukrainian militants towards the Russian border. Izvestia's military correspondent Alexei Poltoranin shared the details of their work on February 14.

According to Poltoranin, evening and night are the time to activate Ukrainian drones. Mobile firing groups leave for pre-selected positions, as a rule, from forest plantations or fields.

"The main task <...> of our special unit <...> is to occupy its border in a timely manner, adjust to the flight in a timely manner, and work in such a way as to prevent violations of the infrastructure of the Russian Federation both in our region and in the rear areas," said the OMON officer.

It is clarified that the enemy actively uses different models of drones, such as the RZ-100, the Fierce, the FP-1 and the FP-2, and also makes repeated attempts to practice jet UAVs.

During a combat mission, Rosgvardiya officers shot down a model of drones popular with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the Fierce, which landed in a swamp after damaging the blades, but remained in working condition. The use of drones of the RZ-100 "Morok" type, which have been deployed by the enemy since 2023, was also recorded. These drones are almost transparent, which makes it difficult for air defense systems to detect them.

These efforts demonstrate the high level of training and coordination of the Ostrog OMON units, which are able to effectively counter threats from Ukrainian drones.

On February 12, a Russian serviceman with the call sign Olympus told how he shot down a Shark reconnaissance drone worth $300 thousand on the border of the Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics (LPR and DPR). According to the fighter, due to the darkness, it was difficult to detect an enemy reconnaissance drone, and the calculation of the radar station helped him with this task.

On January 29, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Sever-V brigade had destroyed at least four kamikaze drones of the AN-196 "Fierce" model of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which were trying to break through the border to the Rostov region. It was clarified that the identified targets, each of which can carry more than 50 kg of TNT, were destroyed by heavy fire. The ministry clarified that Armed Forces fighters usually use such drones to strike energy infrastructure facilities and residential areas bordering the special military operation zone.
