Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu signed a document on joining the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip during a meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington. This was announced on February 11 by the Office of the Israeli Prime Minister.

"Netanyahu met with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Blair House in Washington. <...> In the presence of Secretary Rubio, the Prime Minister signed a document on joining the Peace Council," the office's website says.

It is clarified that Netanyahu, after meeting with Rubio, went to talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House.

The Israeli Prime Minister accepted the invitation of the US President to join the "Peace Council" on the Gaza Strip on January 21. On January 17, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported that the composition of the council was not coordinated with Israel and contradicts the policy of the state. According to Netanyahu's office, the prime minister instructed Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to contact the US Secretary of State on this issue.
