Gazprom Neft specialists have discovered the largest oil field in the Arctic zone of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in the last 30 years. Its geological reserves are estimated at about 55 million tons of oil. This was reported on the Gazprom website on February 11

"The field is named after Alexey Kontorovich, one of the founders of the Russian scientific school of oil and gas geology and organic geochemistry," the publication says.

The Company continues to actively explore in all regions of its presence, applying digital models of underground formations and analyzing data using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The opening will also contribute to achieving the goals of Russia's Energy Strategy until 2050, where the development of projects in the Arctic is identified as one of the priorities.

It is specified that the field is part of a large Gazprom Neft oil and gas cluster in the south of the Yamal Peninsula, which unites the Yuzhno-Novoportovsky, Surovy and Saletinsky sections. Additional exploration is planned in the near future to clarify the geological structure and mining potential. Based on its results, a program for the development of new deposits will be formed.

On February 4, Gazprom Neft consolidated environmental projects and initiatives into a single long-term program. The goals were grouped into four key areas — "Land", "Air", "Water" and "Living Environment" — and calculated over the 2030-2035 horizon.
