The expert assessed the struggle between the authorities and the church in Armenia
The Bishops' Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) will be held under unprecedented pressure. This was stated by political analyst Artur Ataev in an interview with Izvestia.
"Six potential participants are on their own recognizance, four more are in custody. There is a targeted campaign to destroy the AAC. I do not exclude that this attack is coordinated by one of the foreign embassies. Perhaps it was also discussed during the recent visit of American Vice President J. D. Vance to Yerevan," he says.
According to the expert, the AAC demonstrates will and resilience, and the future of the country in the coming political cycle will depend on the outcome of this confrontation.
The Bishops' Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church is scheduled to take place on February 16-19 in the Austrian city of St. Pelten.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has repeatedly demanded the resignation of Catholicos of the Armenian Apostolic Church Garegin II. He also repeatedly called for and demanded the expulsion of the religious leader from his residence in the Etchmiadzin Monastery. Read more in the Izvestia article:
