Nutritionist Andrey Bobrovsky told how to properly replace meat with legumes in the diet.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, February 11, he noted that simply replacing a meat patty with a plate of beans is not always the best solution for health.
The specialist explained that it is possible to get the same amount of full—fledged protein from legumes as from meat only if one condition is met - they must be combined with cereals. According to him, legumes themselves are rich in protein, but they lack some amino acids.
The expert gave examples of successful combinations, such as lentils with rice, beans with bread or flatbread, chickpeas with couscous, noting that it is this combination that makes the diet complete, writes "Moscow 24". He stressed that a balanced plant—based diet does not require searching for exotic superfoods - it is enough to combine familiar products competently.
The day before, Bobrovsky told who should not replace meat in the diet with legumes. In his opinion, such a diet is not suitable for people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, kidneys and gout, pregnant women, adolescents, the elderly, with anemia, as well as those who live in a cold climate and experience high physical activity, writes RT.
