Vice President of the United States J. D. Vance posted on the social network X (ex. Twitter) posted a post about the Armenian genocide, but deleted it soon after. This was reported on February 11 by CNN.

On February 10, a photo appeared on the politician's account showing him and his wife, Usha, attending a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan. The caption noted that the event is dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in 1915.

However, this wording does not correspond to the position of the administration of US President Donald Trump, since the White House avoids using the term "genocide" in official statements.

A representative for Vance commented to CNN that the politician posted the photo on his personal account, and it does not relate to the official position of the vice president. At the same time, Vance himself explained to the press that he had visited the memorial as a sign of respect for the victims and the Armenian government.

In turn, the White House stressed that the Trump administration has not changed its point of view on this issue. Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt recommended focusing on the official statement of the administration, published on the Armenian Memorial Day on April 24.

CNN recalled that in 2019, the U.S. House of Representatives and then the Senate passed resolutions recognizing the Armenian Genocide. In 2021, former American leader Joe Biden also used the term in his official statement.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with Vance on February 7 as part of his working visit to the United States. The Prime Minister's press service clarified that the politicians discussed issues of bilateral relations, as well as the "regional agenda."
