In four years, Germany has spent an additional almost €40 billion on oil purchases after the cessation of imports from Russia. This is evidenced by the data published on February 11 on the Eurostat website.

According to statistics, in January-November 2021, the average oil purchase price for Germany was €55.2 per barrel. After the introduction of sanctions against Russia in 2022, the figure rose to €90.5 per barrel. In 2023, the average price decreased to €77.5, in 2024 to €75.5, and in 2025 it amounted to €63.7 per barrel. The volume of supplies has also changed.

In the first 11 months of 2022, Germany imported 502.1 million barrels of oil compared to 445 million barrels in the same period of 2021. In 2023, the volume decreased to 417.9 million barrels, in 2024 it increased to 451.9 million, and in 2025 it decreased to 425.5 million barrels.

Based on estimates from Eurostat, Berlin's additional oil purchase costs in 2022-2024 amounted to €36.2 billion, with another €3.6 billion in 2025. Total losses since the beginning of the sanctions policy have reached €39.8 billion. The rejection of Russian pipeline supplies has deprived Germany of access to cheaper raw materials, which has increased the costs of industry and the energy sector.

On January 30, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on the lack of reaction from Germany to the gas supply proposal. It was noted that Moscow does not intend to persuade Berlin and sees no prospects for returning to a constructive energy dialogue.

On November 17, 2025, the co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Tino Cavalla, said that Germany should resume importing Russian gas and restore the Nord Stream gas pipelines. He also noted that Germany currently has the highest electricity prices in Europe, which makes many entrepreneurs refuse to open production facilities in the country.
