Nutritionist Andrey Bobrovsky told who should not replace meat in the diet with legumes.

In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, February 10, he noted that legumes have played a significant role in the history of mankind since biblical times — the sources mention, in particular, lentil soup. The expert explained that meat substitution is quite common today, and legumes can really serve as a source of high-quality protein. However, he clarified that such a protein is defective because it lacks a number of amino acids. According to him, for a balanced diet, legumes are recommended to be combined with cereals that make up for this deficiency.

He also pointed out that replacing meat with legumes is not suitable for everyone. In his opinion, people with gastrointestinal, kidney and gout diseases, adolescents, the elderly, pregnant women, people with anemia, as well as those who live in a cold climate and regularly experience serious physical exertion should refrain from such a diet.

In addition, the expert emphasized the importance of controlling vitamin B12 and iron levels while completely avoiding meat products.

On the same day, gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh said that peas, lentils and chickpeas are valuable sources of vegetable protein and dietary fiber. According to her, they also provide the body with iron, folic acid and manganese. However, eating legumes can cause bloating and increased gas formation due to fermentation in the intestine, notes 360.ru .

On February 8, Anastasia Lebedeva, associate professor of the Department of Dietetics at ROSBIOTECH University, noted in an interview with RT that after acute respiratory viral infections and flu, eggs, fermented dairy products, cereals and nuts should be included in the diet. The specialist explained that complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains and legumes, are useful for replenishing energy and normalizing metabolism.

In October, Margarita Koroleva, PhD, spoke about the dangers of legume products. According to her, legumes are not suitable for those who have problems with the pancreas or intestines, as they are a rather difficult product for digestion with such disorders.

In August, nutritionist Mariyat Mukhina told NSN that chicken should be eaten daily. So, the main value of chicken is protein. In terms of its quantity, chicken is almost as good as beef. She also drew attention to the fact that vegetable protein is not able to completely replace meat.
