On February 9, US President Donald Trump announced his intention to block the construction of the Gordie Howe Hockey Bridge between the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of Michigan.

"I will not allow this bridge to open until the United States receives full compensation for everything we have given them, and, more importantly, until Canada treats the United States with the justice and respect we deserve," he said in a message on the Truth Social network.

Trump also added that the American side would begin negotiations immediately. In addition, he clarified that the United States should own at least half of the ownership rights to the bridge.

According to the American leader, these demands are justified by a number of claims against Canada. He said that former US President Barack Obama made a mistake by allowing the construction of this facility without using American steel.

On February 1, Trump announced the temporary closure of the Kennedy Center for construction and reconstruction work. He clarified that the decision was made based on the conclusions of contractors, music experts, art institutes and other consultants, as well as with the consent of the board of directors. According to the president, the continuation of the center's work during the reconstruction would lead to a decrease in the quality of construction and a significant increase in work time.
