The media reported a shortage of psychotherapists to treat soldiers with PTSD
The Israeli Defense Ministry is facing a shortage of psychotherapists for IDF soldiers who have experienced PTSD after fighting in the Gaza Strip. This was reported on February 9 by the Israeli newspaper The Times of Israel.
Ronit Sandrovic, head of the Department of Social Services at the Ministry of Defense, said that there is only one psychotherapist for about 850 victims.
"We are indebted to our fighters who are facing psychological problems as a result of their injuries. The State of Israel sent them to war or was responsible for them in moments of terror, and now it is our duty to support them in the rehabilitation process," Sandrovic said.
It is noted that an internal investigation by the IDF has shown that most of the suicides of military personnel are associated with PTSD caused by prolonged stay in the war zone in the Gaza Strip.
On January 16, Reuters reported on the development of PTSD in the Israeli military due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip. It was noted that since September 2023, the number of cases of PTSD among military personnel has increased by 40% and may increase by 180% in the future by 2028.
