The doctor talked about first aid for frostbite
Mikhail Krynin, a surgeon and orthopedic traumatologist at the St. Andrew's Hospitals NEBOLIT clinic network, told on Monday, February 9, what can and cannot be done with frostbite.
With the onset of cold weather, the risk of frostbite on the hands and feet increases, the specialist noted, and in order to minimize the consequences, it is important to know several key rules of first aid.
"The first and most important thing is never rub frostbitten areas with snow. Low temperature, like a burn, deeply damages tissues, and friction will only worsen the injury," he warned in an interview with Mail Health.
According to the expert, with mild frostbite, you should enter a warm room as soon as possible, and your hands or feet should be immersed in lukewarm water, gradually increasing its temperature.
At the same time, special care should be taken with the second and third degrees of frostbite, when blisters with transparent or bloody contents appear on the skin. In such cases, a sterile dressing and mandatory medical advice are necessary, as special surgical treatment may be required, the specialist explained.
In the most severe degrees of frostbite, when tissue necrosis occurs, treatment is carried out only in a hospital. It includes a course of vasodilating drugs, and in severe cases, surgical intervention, concluded Krynin.
On February 6, Ivan Kalmykov, Ph.D., Chief specialist in otorhinolaryngology at the Be Healthy clinic network, told RIAMO that hypothermia of the ears in frosty weather can lead to frostbite and other unpleasant consequences.
On February 4, Alexander Vrublevsky, an assistant at the Department of Polyclinic Therapy at the Pirogov University Institute of Clinical Medicine, noted that frosts pose four main dangers to humans — general hypothermia, frostbite of body parts, exacerbation of chronic diseases and decreased immunity.
In turn, Ekaterina Paukova, a cardiologist at the Sberbank Health medical company, told RT that severe frost can contribute to the development of myocardial infarction, especially in people at risk. According to the specialist, it includes patients with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus, obesity and elderly people. 360.ru .
