The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has detained a key participant in the attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, Libya. This was announced on February 6 by the American Minister of Justice, Attorney General Pamela Bondi.

"The FBI has arrested one of the key participants in the Benghazi attack. Zubayyar al-Bakoush landed at Andrews Air Base at 3 a.m. this morning. He is in custody," the Reuters news agency quoted Bondi as saying.

She clarified that the detainee will be charged with murder, arson and terrorism.

In the fall of 2017, US President Donald Trump confirmed the detention in Libya of Mustafa al-Imam, a suspect in the Benghazi terrorist attack. Then, as a result of the attack, Ambassador Christopher Stevens, as well as US citizens Glen Doherty, Sean Smith and Tyrone Woods were killed.

The attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi took place in September 2012. Stevens' car was shot at during the evacuation from the building, which was attacked by an armed attack.
