The European Union (EU) is giving Armenia and other CIS countries a choice — to be with Russia or with it. This was announced on February 5 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"As for our colleagues from the European Union, they constantly put the relevant country in front of a choice – either with us or with them. This is their inexhaustible logic, applied for more than twenty years in the post—Soviet space," Lavrov said on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

He also expressed the hope that "Armenia understands perfectly well what is behind this." According to him, the EU narrative should not dominate in the CIS countries, which would lead to increased hatred and hostility in the commonwealth.

Earlier, Lavrov said that the EU had transferred a tranche of €15 million to Armenia, and Yerevan would be forced to work off every cent with something destructive. The Minister also expressed the hope that Armenian politicians who advocate cooperation with Russia will not be persecuted.
