Reuters reported a record warm January in Greenland
Meteorologists in Greenland recorded the highest January temperature in the history of observations. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on February 4.
"In January 2026, the average temperature was 0.2 degrees Celsius, which is the highest in the history of observations and significantly exceeds the historical average of -7.7 degrees Celsius from 1991 to 2020," the publication says.
According to the head of the Greenland Climate Research Center, Jacob Hoyer, warming of the air will be followed by an increase in water temperature, which, in turn, will have an impact on the ecosystem of the Danish autonomous region.
Last year, on December 18, scientists said that in addition to rising temperatures, climate change in the Arctic is leading to episodes of extreme melting, when ice loss, which previously took weeks or months, occurs in just a few days. These increasingly frequent events are changing the normal dynamics of ice loss, significantly changing the state of snow and ice — the most vulnerable elements of the polar climate system.
