The authorities of St. Petersburg named the main problem of cleaning after snowfall
The problem with snow removal in St. Petersburg after heavy snowfalls is complicated by the high density of parking in the central areas of the city, which interferes with the work of special equipment. This was reported on February 4 by the newspaper Delovoy Peterburg.
According to Evgeny Razumishkin, Vice–Governor of St. Petersburg, more than 60 cm of snow fell in the city during the New Year holidays, and more than one million cubic meters have already been removed.
"We have a scheduled removal period after a snowfall, which brings about 15 cm of snow cover to a height, is 9-12 days. Before removal, snow must be formed into piles or shafts, and here the city faces one of the key problems — high street parking. Parked cars do not allow rotary snow loaders to operate, especially in central areas," the vice governor explained.
As an experiment, temporary signs were installed on some streets prohibiting parking at certain hours for cleaning, and this measure has proven its effectiveness.
Razumishkin noted that the problem of staff shortage is being systematically solved. The salary of janitors today is 71 thousand rubles, tractor drivers — 100 thousand rubles. Staff turnover has decreased, and in 2025, the number of staff members in district housing agencies has increased by 2 thousand. The vice governor added that the city will continue to attract migrants, but with an emphasis on those who "are interested in making our city clean."
Touching upon the topic of major repairs, especially in the "Khrushchev" houses, Razumishkin denied rumors of a deliberate delay in work due to possible demolition.
“no. The program should be completed by 2038, and we must eliminate the backlog in an understandable way — by increasing funding. But this is also a question of the owners. Therefore, I would not single out some houses here and others not," he said.
Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonosti news agency, reported on February 2 that the cold weather in the Moscow region would continue throughout the week, including weekends. She clarified that the most severe frosts are expected in the middle of the week, when the weather will be influenced by the periphery of the anticyclone.
