The administration of the TikTok social network, in materials sent to the European Commission (EC), could not confirm the statements of the Romanian authorities about Russia's alleged interference in the presidential elections in Romania in December 2024. This is stated in the report on the results of the investigation conducted by the Legal Committee of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress.

"Internal TikTok documents submitted to the committee seem to refute this version [of Russian interference in the Romanian elections]. In documents for the European Commission, which has used repeated allegations of Russian interference to investigate the practice of content moderation on TikTok, the social network stated that it had not found or received any evidence of a coordinated network of 25,000 accounts linked to the campaign of [presidential candidate Kalin] Georgescu," TASS cites the text of the report.

The investigation materials also indicate that "the most aggressive censorship measures" were applied during the election campaign in Romania in 2024. In addition, the authors of the document draw attention to the possible Romanian origin of the campaign against Russia. In particular, they refer to a publication by Intellinews, which claimed that the National Liberal Party could have promoted these versions in order to bring to power a candidate "preferred by the establishment."

Presidential elections were held in Romania in November 2024. In terms of the number of votes, Georgescu was in the lead with 22.94% of the votes. The second round was scheduled to take place on December 8. At the same time, on December 6, the Constitutional Court of Romania annulled the voting results.

The second round of repeated presidential elections was held on May 18 last year. It was reported that Romanian police escorted Georgescu and the head of the opposition Alliance for the Unification of Romanians party, George Simion, from a polling station in a Bucharest suburb. Nicusor Dan, the mayor of Bucharest and candidate of the ruling Romanian party, won the election.

On May 1, 2024, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, pointed out the falsity of statements about Russia's alleged interference in the presidential elections in Romania.
