According to preliminary estimates, in 2025, Russia increased rapeseed oil exports by 37% compared to the level of 2024, to 1.58 million tons. Export revenue increased by 54% to over $1.6 billion. This was reported to Izvestia on February 4 in the press service of the federal center "Agroexport".

They also noted that since 2019, China has been the largest buyer of domestic rapeseed oil, and during this period it has significantly increased purchases. According to the results of last year, 1.4 million tons of rapeseed oil were shipped to China, which is 37% more than in 2024 and 6.5 times higher than in 2019. As a result, China's share in the total volume of Russian rapeseed oil exports rose from 32% in 2019 to 90% in 2025.

In addition to China, Iran, Norway, Tunisia and Latvia are among the top 5 leading buyers of Russian rapeseed oil. Iran rose to second place last year, increasing imports by more than three times and displacing Latvia. Norway increased purchases by 26% and, as last year, is in third place.

In addition, for the first time since 2017, Russia supplied rapeseed oil to India (12 thousand tons), for the first time since 2022 to Algeria (2 thousand tons) and Georgia (72 tons), and Morocco (8 thousand tons), North Korea (314 tons) and Mauritius (45 tons).

"The success in the development of rapeseed oil exports is based on the expansion of the raw material base: over the past 6 years, rapeseed production has grown by an average of 23% per year. Thanks to such dynamic growth, Russia has become the second largest exporter of rapeseed oil in the world. Now our task is to expand the geography of exports, enter new markets and actively promote domestic rapeseed products in foreign countries," Ilya Ilyushin, head of the Agroexport Federal Center, explained to Izvestia.

"The expansion of acreage and the introduction of long-term protective measures for the export of raw materials contributed to an increase in capacities, rapeseed processing and export of finished products due to the consistently high global demand for rapeseed oil. Taking into account the new record rapeseed harvest, according to our forecasts, the export of rapeseed oil this year may increase by 20-25%," said Mikhail Maltsev, Executive Director of the Fat and Oil Union of Russia.

He said that the main buyers will remain the same, and the lion's share will continue to go to China.

Ilya Ilyushin, head of the Agroexport center, told Izvestia on January 9 that increased shipments of Russian agricultural products would be supported by increased production of cereals and legumes, as well as stable external demand. He also noted the positive dynamics in the export of meat and dairy products, especially with added value. According to the expert, strengthening cooperation with China and other friendly markets in Asia, the Middle East and Africa will play an important role.
