- Callas retracted her words about the impossibility of creating an army of the European Union
On February 2, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, retracted her words that creating her own European army was impossible, suggesting that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte take responsibility for this topic.
A moderator at a security conference in Norway asked Callas to clarify her position on the impossibility of forming a pan-European army.
"It wasn't me who said that, it was the NATO Secretary General who said that," Kallas retorted. The broadcast was hosted by the YouTube channel DRM News.
She also added that if a country is already a member of NATO, then it can no longer create its own separate army, in addition to the one that the entire bloc has.
In addition, on January 29, Callas, during a meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union, did not support the idea of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to create a pan-European army based on the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), saying that she "cannot imagine this."
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on January 15 that Russia takes the militarization of Europe very seriously and takes this into account in military planning. She noted that Russia is closely monitoring the steps of the European Union and NATO, which are aimed at strengthening the militarization of the bloc's countries.
