- The Ukrainian media reported on the scandal over the lands allocated for the military cemetery.
The decision of the Supreme Court of Ukraine to declare illegal the process of granting protected lands near Markhalevka in the Kiev region led to a scandal in Ukraine — the military declared its readiness to come to this territory to protect it. This was reported on the evening of January 31 by the Ukrainian edition "Страна.иа ".
"The Supreme Court has declared illegal the allocation of land for the National War Memorial Cemetery near Markhalevka, Kiev region. After that, the military began threatening that veterans would come to "protect the cemetery," according to a message posted on the Telegram channel.
The decision, which effectively stops construction at the cemetery, was due to a ban on cutting down trees in this area, where burials have been underway since last year. Representatives of the 3rd Army Corps of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as well as their colleagues from other units, called on the public to defend the territory and threatened to hold rallies there.
A representative of the Russian security forces at the beginning of the month, on January 8, announced an increase in the number of cemeteries of military personnel from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It was emphasized that there are so many dead that several funeral processes take place a day, and graves are dug in advance.
The Times newspaper reported on December 22, 2025, that burial sites had run out at the military cemetery, which is located on the territory of Lviv in Ukraine. At that time, it was emphasized that representatives of local authorities had begun searching for new territories that could be used as cemeteries.
