The protests of US residents against the activities of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have spread to all corners of the country. This was announced on January 31 by CNN.

"While the administration of [American leader Donald] Trump is trying to contain the wave of outrage over the shooting in Minnesota, it has caused a new wave of protests from defenders of freedom of speech and freedom of the press in connection with the arrest on Friday of former CNN anchor Don Lemon and independent journalist Georgia Fort," the article says.

It is noted that protests in Minnesota have been going on for the second week due to the murders of two residents by federal agents. At the same time, on January 30, tables were empty in restaurants across the country before the weekend, and shop windows were closed due to strikes.

The CBS television channel, citing the Department of Homeland Security, reported on January 7 that an ICE officer who was doing his job in Minneapolis shot and killed a 37-year-old woman there. After the incident, the first mass protests began in the city. Some time later, Fox News reported that another border guard officer opened fire on an armed man, who later died.

As a result of the incident, strikes began in Minneapolis, in which almost 100 thousand people took part. On January 12, protesters against the actions of ICE held rallies in front of the 58-storey skyscraper Trump Tower in New York.

The New York Times reported on January 30 that ICE has expanded the powers of its employees, allowing them to detain people without a prior arrest warrant. Previously, such measures were applied only if the agent believed that a suspect in violation of migration laws could evade proceedings and not attend a hearing on his case.
