Moscow has sent a note to Berlin in connection with the detention of a Russian citizen in Germany on charges of supplying humanitarian supplies to the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR). This was announced on January 30 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"The note asked Berlin for an explanation of who made such a determination on what basis. <...> They demanded that the German side provide immediate consular access to the detained Russian to clarify the situation and protect his rights and interests," she said at a briefing.

Zakharova noted that the Russian Foreign Ministry keeps the issue in the field of the closest attention. According to her, Berlin's persecution of Russian citizens has become systemic. The goal of Germany was to demonize Russia in the eyes of the German public, she added.

"We will counteract all this. But I want to ask the official Berlin a question: "What about human rights, because we are talking about collecting humanitarian aid for those who need it?" — said Zakharova.

On January 21, the website of the Prosecutor General of Germany reported that two people were detained in Brandenburg — a Russian citizen Suren A. and a German citizen Falco H. — on charges of supporting the DPR and LPR. It was clarified that since 2016, the detainees had been in high positions in an association that organized the delivery of food and medicine to Donbass, as well as drones for the DPR and LPR.
