The amount of sick leave payment directly depends on the insurance record and official income. Evgenia Gankina, Director of the Roskachestvo Organizational Development Department, told about this on Thursday, January 29. She named the conditions under which an employee receives full payment for days of absence from work for health reasons.

"Employees with insurance experience of eight years or more receive the maximum compensation, namely 100% of the average earnings. If the length of service is from five to eight years, 80% of the average salary is paid, and with less than five years of experience — 60%," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

She clarified that the average earnings are not calculated for the last month, but for the two calendar years preceding the year of illness. In addition, only those payments from which the employer paid insurance premiums are taken into account.

Gankina added that the employer is obliged to transfer information about the length of service and earnings to the Social Fund, but mistakes can happen, and in order to receive the maximum payment, it is important to monitor the correctness of the data.

However, she noted that even with a long record of service, there is a limit on the amount of payment.

"The law sets the maximum base for calculating insurance premiums, and if your salary is above this limit, the benefit will still be calculated within the established ceiling. In 2026, the maximum sick leave payment will be 6827.4 rubles per day," said the director of the department.

Gankina said that in order to receive payments, a sick leave must be officially issued — only a disability certificate issued by a medical organization gives the right to payment.

In addition, she recalled that the legislation makes it possible to undergo medical examinations, and the employer is obliged to provide a paid day for this, and in some cases two days.

"To do this, you need to write an application and coordinate the date with the employer. This is a right worth remembering," the expert concluded.

Earlier, on January 28, the head of the State Duma Committee on Health Protection, Sergei Leonov, announced that in February 2026, working Russian citizens on sick leave will receive at least 967.61 rubles for each day of temporary disability.

It is specified that in Russia, since the beginning of the year, the minimum wage has reached 27,093 rubles, which, according to the parliamentarian, has led to an increase in minimum temporary disability benefits.

Ekaterina Stenyakina, a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor and Social Policy, said on January 22 that the amount of hospital child care allowance in 2026 would range from 900 to more than 6.8 thousand rubles per day, depending on the parent's salary. If the salary is small or the length of service is less than six months, the allowance is calculated based on the minimum wage (over 27 thousand rubles in 2026). In this case, you can get from 860 to 980 rubles for a day of sick leave for a child under the age of seven. The amount of hospital payments is indexed annually.
