The United States will continue to ensure dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, despite the refusal of the special envoy of the American president Stephen Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to participate in the negotiations in the UAE. This was announced on January 29 by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

"[The United States] will do everything to ensure that the dialogue can continue," he said during a briefing.

Peskov added that during the remaining days before the new bilateral meeting between Moscow and Kiev in the UAE, which will take place on February 1, the parties will coordinate "modalities." However, he clarified that "in fact, this will not change anything."

The day before, Peskov said that negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict in Abu Dhabi would continue on February 1. In addition, the Kremlin positively assessed the beginning of direct contacts between Russia and Ukraine. On the same day, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that Witkoff and Kushner would not attend a new meeting. He did not explain this decision.

At the same time, Peskov said that the negotiations on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi turned out to be very difficult and sensitive. He also noted that the Russian delegation at the talks regularly receives instructions from President Vladimir Putin.
