The initiative to raise the age of children to seven, whose parents will be able to stay with them in the hospital for free, while receiving food and a bed, was proposed by Yana Lantratova, chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Development of Civil Society, Issues of public and religious associations. On January 29, the deputy sent a letter with a proposal to the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Mikhail Murashko.

According to Lantratova, the current legislation provides for a free stay together with food and a bed exclusively for parents whose children have not reached the age of four. If the child is older than the specified age, the free stay of the parent is possible only if there are confirmed medical indications.

"I consider it advisable to amend the legislation by raising the age threshold that allows a parent or other close relative to stay in a medical organization with a child for free, including receiving free meals and a bed, up to and including seven years," TASS quoted her as saying.

The deputy said that parents often come to her with a problem: children aged five to six need supervision when taking medications and undergoing procedures. She recalled that parents have the right to stay with children over the age of four, but the existing conditions do not provide for their meals and overnight stays.

According to Lantratova, separation from family negatively affects the child's psyche, making hospital stays traumatic. The implementation of the proposed measures, according to her, will improve the results of treatment, the psychological state of children and accelerate recovery. In addition, the presence of parents will reduce the burden on medical staff.

On January 28, Sergey Rybalchenko, Chairman of the Public Chamber's commission on demography, family protection, children and traditional family values, said that the introduction of joint maternity leave for some working family members would help young mothers without taking unpaid leave. At the same time, parental leave can usually be issued only after the completion of maternity leave, which lasts 70 days after birth during a normal pregnancy.
