Experts have named the types of seedlings for Russians to plant in February

When planning early seedling, it is of paramount importance to take into account the climatic characteristics of the region, so for southern regions such as Krasnodar and Volgograd, the optimal planting time in February is sweet peppers and eggplants, which can later be successfully grown in the open ground. Early tomato varieties sown in early February in these climatic zones will require further relocation to greenhouse conditions. "In the cities of central Russia with a temperate climate, which includes Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Bryansk, Tula, Kazan, Saratov, cold-resistant crops with a long growing season and subsequent planting in a greenhouse are suitable for sowing in February. During this period, eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli, kohlrabi, leeks, root celery, late-ripening carrots and beets can be sown in this climatic zone," the experts shared in an interview with Gazeta.Ru».

It is specified that for regions with a continental climate, like Yekaterinburg, where spring comes late, only a few crops are suitable for sowing in February: root celery, repair strawberries and hot pepper. Early sowing of these plants requires mandatory additional lighting (at least 12 hours a day) using phytolamps or cold white LED panels. This will provide them with strong roots and sturdy stems.

Without such lighting, especially in temperate marine or temperate cold climates, seedlings will be weak and elongated. The combination of early planting, additional light and stable temperature (from 24°C) guarantees a good harvest even with a short summer. Experts also recommend watering the seedlings carefully, using a fine spray gun, so as not to damage the delicate shoots, and to avoid waterlogging.
