The doctor talked about the symptoms of a stroke
Maxim Sutormin, chief freelance neurologist at the Ministry of Health of the Moscow Region, explained the symptoms of stroke and how to help in this situation.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, January 27, the specialist noted that the symptoms of stroke can be very different. Most often, these are violations of arm or leg movements, dizziness, loss of vision in one eye, speech and coordination failures, as well as loss of sensitivity. According to him, an attack can develop suddenly — from numbness of the fingers to loss of consciousness or coma. For the initial self—check, he recommended raising both hands: if one of them is defeated, one of them will lag behind, and also try to pronounce your name - it is difficult to do this if speech is impaired.
The specialist added that the "face—hand—speech" scheme is used to assess the severity of the condition.
He noted that stroke usually develops against the background of other diseases, including endocrine disorders, diabetes mellitus, fat metabolism disorders, overweight and cardiac arrhythmias. Genetic predisposition, he said, is also important, but not the key one, so he stressed the importance of regular checkups with doctors.
On January 21, cardiovascular surgeon Vladimir Khoroshev, in an interview with NSN, said that the risks of arterial damage increase from the age of 40. According to him, the symptoms appear already when the lesion of the arteries exceeds 40-50% of their diameter. In this regard, it is important to undergo regular examinations, writes RT.
On January 19, scientists from the University of Cambridge created the Revoice wearable device, capable of providing fluent, emotionally expressive communication in patients with dysarthria after a stroke. The system uses ultra-sensitive textile sensors that are attached to the neck to capture high-quality signals.
Neurologist Ksenia Gromova told RIAMO on January 2 that stroke is not only a disease of the elderly, such a disease can occur even in the young, but the causes of the disease are different. In the elderly, atherosclerosis and hypertension remain the main causes of stroke, while in the young, other factors are more often identified. Among them is dissection, that is, dissection of the wall of the main artery of the head, less often the cerebral artery.
In December, cardiologist Andrey Kondrakhin warned that for patients with vascular diseases, a decrease in blood pressure below 120/80 mmHg could lead to impaired cerebral circulation, notes 360.ru .
In September, Professor, cardiologist, Honored Doctor of Russia, Candidate of Medical Sciences Yuri Serebryansky in an interview with Pravda.Ru said that stroke is one of the most dangerous disorders of the blood circulation of the brain and often leads to disability or death. According to him, there are two main types of stroke — ischemic and hemorrhagic. Ischemic develops due to blockage of a vessel by a thrombus or atherosclerotic plaque, whereas hemorrhagic is associated with cerebral hemorrhage, most often against the background of high blood pressure or blood clotting disorders.
