At least 25 people have died in a landslide after heavy rains in the Indonesian province of West Java. This was reported by Bloomberg on January 26.

"Up to 80 people are still missing in the town of Chisarua, located about 144 km from the capital Jakarta," the article says.

According to the agency, search operations were temporarily suspended due to bad weather. As a result of the disaster, two small villages were almost completely destroyed.

According to the Indonesian meteorological agency, the current monsoon season may bring even more rain to several local islands, including Java, which will increase the risk of natural disasters both in rural highlands and in cities.

The landslide in Indonesia became known on January 24. Earlier, the Indonesian Meteorological Agency warned of heavy rains in the region during the week. A landslide caused by heavy rains descended in the village of Pasir Langu, located in a hilly area about 100 km southeast of Jakarta. The disaster destroyed more than 30 residential buildings.

Abdul Muhari, a representative of Indonesia's National Disaster Management Agency, said that search and rescue operations were being complicated by ongoing rainfall and new small landslides. Drones and heavy machinery are used for the search.
