The first day of negotiations of the trilateral group of Russia, the United States and Ukraine in Abu Dhabi was a success. This opinion was voiced on January 23 by a representative of the White House in an interview with NBC News.

"Today's trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi between the United States, Ukraine and Russia was productive. Negotiations will continue tomorrow," he said.

The publication notes that the new stage of negotiations indicates the resumption of efforts for a peaceful settlement after several months of suspension of the diplomatic process.

Earlier in the day, the Reuters news agency announced the completion of the first day of negotiations. During the meeting, the sides made some progress towards a peace agreement, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said. Discussions are currently underway on several scenarios for resolving the crisis.

The Associated Press reported earlier in the day that the trilateral security group was negotiating in various formats during its first meeting in Abu Dhabi, sometimes splitting into thematic groups if necessary. It is noted that the meeting was the first known case when representatives of the administration of US President Donald Trump simultaneously met with representatives of both Russia and Ukraine.
