Spain's transport minister called the derailment of two trains "extremely strange."
Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente said on January 19 that the accident involving two high-speed trains that derailed on the evening of January 18 was "extremely strange."
"The accident is extremely strange, it happened on a straight section of the track, and experts are confused. We hope that the investigation will help us clarify what happened," the LibertadDigital online newspaper quoted the minister as saying.
Puente added that the section of railway where the tragedy occurred has recently been repaired, and the derailed train is relatively new.
