The US Army has missed its deadline for adopting hypersonic weapons
The US Army missed the deadline set by it for putting the first American hypersonic weapon into service. This was reported on January 17 by the Bloomberg news agency, citing a statement from the US army.
It clarifies that the unit responsible for the use of weapons is trained and ready, but the missile itself, whose development program cost $ 10.4 billion, is not ready for use.
"Field activities include the necessary stages of integration, security, and readiness to ensure that military personnel receive a reliable, sustainable, and operationally effective system, and their completion is scheduled for early 2026," the material says.
According to the agency, in December 2025, representatives of the US Armed Forces announced that hypersonic weapons would enter service at the very end of 2025, but in the end, the army missed this deadline. This is not the first time that the US Army has failed to bring hypersonic weapons into service on time.
The Financial Times newspaper reported on November 8, 2025, that U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth demanded that major defense contractors accelerate the development and production of weapons, saying that a new era of competition in procurement was coming. According to him, large defense enterprises need to focus on speed and volume, as well as invest their own capital to achieve these goals.
