The media learned about Tikhanovskaya's plans to move from Lithuania to Poland
Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and her office plan to move from Lithuania to Poland. This was reported on January 17 by Sputnik Lithuania, citing sources in the politician's team.
"This is due to the security level lowered at the end of last year by the decision of the Lithuanian authorities for the ex-presidential candidate of Belarus," the article says.
Currently, the security of the ex-presidential candidate of Belarus is provided by Lithuanian police officers. Previously, security was provided by the Leadership's Security Service, which is responsible for protecting the country's top officials, including President Gitanas Nauseda. The final decision on the relocation of the Tikhanovskaya team has not yet been made.
On October 8 last year, it was reported that the office of Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya had suspended its work in Lithuania. On October 7, 2025, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kastutis Budris announced that the country's authorities had decided to reduce the level of security at Tikhanovskaya. It is noted that since Tikhanovskaya's arrival in Lithuania in 2020, she has been guarded around the clock not only in the country, but also abroad.
In 2020, presidential elections were held in Belarus, which were won by the current president Alexander Lukashenko. The opposition did not agree with the results of the vote and declared Tikhanovskaya the winner of the election. There have been protests in the country. Later, Tikhanovskaya left for Lithuania. In October 2020, she was put on the interstate wanted list by the Belarusian authorities.
