The Ministry of Transport saw no reason to increase the speed on toll roads
There is no reason to increase the maximum speed allowed on toll roads, which currently stands at 130 km/h. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation Andrey Nikitin, reports TASS on January 16.
As Nikitin pointed out, the non-penalized threshold of 20 km/h allows drivers to accelerate to 150 km/h, and this speed is "more than enough." Thus, there is no expediency in such an increase, the head of the Ministry of Transport believes.
However, according to the minister, the agency is exploring the possibility of raising the limit on other routes where it is lower.
For example, the maximum speed allowed on the Tavrida highway is currently 90 km/h. In some sections, the speed limit may be increased to 110-120 km/h in the future, Nikitin shared.
As the head of the State Traffic Inspectorate, Mikhail Chernikov, has repeatedly stated, the agency is considering increasing the maximum permissible speed on some roads of the country to 150 km/h, but only in those areas where it is safe.
Earlier, on December 25, it was reported that the volume of construction, reconstruction and repair of highways in Russia in 2025 increased by 14% compared to 2024 and amounted to 28 thousand km. About 213 million square meters were laid. m of asphalt.
