The second package of measures against cybercriminals is due to come into force in September. This was announced on January 15 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation.

"At the end of last year, a bill was submitted to the State Duma aimed at increasing the protection of citizens from intruders who use digital technologies. <...> It is assumed that the innovations will come into force in September," Mishustin said.

He recalled that the bill included about 20 initiatives. Mishustin also said that in addition to them, the government will consider "a number of other changes to the legal framework."

On January 10, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank Stanislav Kuznetsov reported that intruders seeking to deceive Russians began to actively use a new deception scheme based on a callback, which they developed after the introduction of restrictions on calls in messengers. To do this, people are sent messages with plausible pretexts — urgent requests to clarify information, confirm data, or call back at the specified phone number.

Last December, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted a 7% decrease in telephone fraud crimes in the country. The amount of damage caused by such acts also decreased by 33%. The Russian leader urged citizens to remember that fraud has not gone away anyway and the attackers will improve their tools.
