Germany may send its military to the island of Greenland, which is an autonomous unit of the Danish Kingdom, within a week. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on Wednesday, January 14, citing sources.

"First (to Greenland. A preliminary list of some members of the Bundeswehr will be sent. <...> The First intelligence Group will begin work on Thursday (January 15. — Ed.)," the publication says.

It also emphasizes that a representative of the Federal Ministry of Defense, in response to a request from the publication to comment on the information received from German and Scandinavian sources, stated that he could not "confirm or deny it."

It is specified that Germany, as part of the NATO mission to increase its presence in Greenland, may send mountain troops, its fleet and units of the Air Force (Air Force) there. As noted in the text, the coordination of the work of all European units sent to the island will be carried out not by the command of the North Atlantic Alliance, but by the authorized heads of Denmark.

On the same day, the website of the Parliament of the European Union (EU) reported that the leaders of the member states of the alliance needed to identify concrete and tangible support for Greenland and Denmark. At the same time, it became known that Denmark began transferring military equipment and advanced units to the territory of its autonomous unit, whose residents want to remain with the kingdom.
