Friendly relations between Russia and Namibia are developing steadily based on the principles of mutual respect and support. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on January 14 at a meeting with his foreign counterpart Selma Ashipala-Musavyi in Moscow.

"We are interested in resuming the practice of regular foreign policy consultations that we had, and then there was a pause, including in connection with covid. Today, Madam Minister and I have firmly agreed to resume this practice," Lavrov said at a press conference after meeting with the minister from Namibia.

He noted that the Kremlin appreciates Namibia's balanced position on the Ukrainian issue and said that in the future efforts on trade cooperation between the two countries will intensify.

Lavrov also said that he had accepted the invitation of the Namibian Foreign Minister to pay a return visit to the country and said that regular high-level foreign policy consultations between Russia and Namibia would resume in the future.

On December 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia had strengthened its position on the African continent in 2025. In addition, agreements were concluded on the foundations of relations with the States of Mali and Togo, as well as a diplomatic mission in South Sudan, and friendly relations with Egypt were developed.
