The Iranian authorities called on citizens to take part in a demonstration on January 12 in Tehran to protest the unrest. This was announced on January 10 by the Iranian state television and radio company IRIB in its Telegram channel.

"The Council for the Coordination of Islamic Development invites people from all over the country to participate in the national assembly to condemn the terrorist actions of agents of the United States and Israel," the statement said.

According to gosteleradio, the demonstration will begin at 14:00 local time (13:30 Moscow time) on Engelab Square.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Iranian authorities had detained more than 200 organizers of the riots. The detainees, according to the Tasnim news agency, stocked up on firearms, grenades and Molotov cocktails and tried to attack state and government facilities. Some of them opened fire on law enforcement forces and individual protesters, which in some cases resulted in human casualties. The arrest of the leaders led to a marked decrease in the intensity of the riots.

On the same day, the national flag was removed from the Iranian Embassy in London and replaced with the pre-revolutionary Lion and Sun symbol.
