- The Russian Ambassador stated the relevance of the agreement on cooperation between Russia and Venezuela
The Interstate Agreement on Strategic Partnership and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and Venezuela continues to be a strategic guideline in relations between Caracas and Moscow. This was announced on January 10 by Russian Ambassador to Caracas Sergey Melik-Baghdasarov following a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Hill.
"The interstate agreement on strategic partnership and cooperation, which has entered into force, is an uncontested guideline for further comprehensive strengthening of our relations. The implementation of the tasks identified during bilateral contacts at the highest and highest levels, including the results of the recent 19th meeting of the high-level intergovernmental Russian-Venezuelan commission, will certainly continue," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The diplomat added that during the meeting he also pointed out the legality of Venezuela's demands for the immediate release of President Nicolas Naduro and his wife Celia Flores, who had been captured by the United States.
Khil announced the meeting with the Russian ambassador on January 9 in the Telegram channel. During this meeting, Caracas received from the Russian government a new signal of solidarity and support for the Venezuelan people and government, who are currently facing the abduction of Maduro.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said on January 6 that Russia welcomes the efforts of the Venezuelan authorities to protect state sovereignty and national interests. The statement notes that the oath of office of the Executive Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, demonstrates the government's determination to ensure the unity of power and create conditions for stable development.
Maduro was taken to New York Federal Court on January 5 to face charges. In court, he declared his innocence and said that he was still the president of his country. The American court agreed to schedule a visit by consular officers to Venezuela. The judge ordered Maduro to appear in court on March 17 for a hearing.
