The Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about fraud with repeated payments on CTP
Fraudsters steal money from insurance companies, seeking repeated payments for CTP after an accident. This was announced on January 10 in the press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
The department explained that the attackers use various schemes related to fictitious or re-claimed accidents.
"Sometimes fraudsters file the same case with several insurance companies at once, applying for compensation from different companies," the Interior Ministry said at the request of TASS.
A scheme with repeated payments for the same damages is also common.
"The driver has already received money for repairs, but the car is not being repaired. After a couple of months, he "finds" the same damage in a new accident (real or staged) and gets paid again," the press center noted.
The Interior Ministry added that pseudo-terrorists are often involved in such scams. Participants in such schemes face liability under Article 159.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — a fine of up to 300 thousand rubles or imprisonment for up to five years.
Earlier, on January 7, it was reported that the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned about the risks of using paid services for the registration of CTP policies. The agency noted that such proposals can lead to loss of money and invalidation of the insurance, since registration of the policy and receipt of the commission are allowed only through insurance companies or accredited agents.
