Rubio announced US plans to reconcile the warring forces in Venezuela

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the United States is striving for internal reconciliation of the warring parties in Venezuela and stabilization of the situation in the country. He announced this on January 9 at a meeting between President Donald Trump and the leadership of major American oil companies.

"At the same time, a reconciliation process must take place within [the country] between different sectors of society and politics and the like," Rubio said.

According to him, American plans include the modernization of Venezuela's oil infrastructure and the subsequent transition to a new government in Caracas.

Washington intends to take control of the oil sector, launch Western companies into the country and organize a transition of power.

The visit underscores the desire of the United States to restore a diplomatic presence in the country and assess opportunities for further action.
