On January 6, Democratic Congresswoman April McClain Delaney called on the party leadership to consider launching impeachment proceedings against US President Donald Trump. The reason was the military operation in Venezuela, conducted without Congressional approval.

"I cannot stand idly by as I watch the president once again overstep his authority and undermine the system of checks and balances," Delaney said.

According to Delaney, it is urgently necessary to discuss the possibility of impeachment within the Democratic faction, stressing that it is about protecting the constitutional order.

Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez took the oath of office as interim president on January 5. On January 4, the Supreme Court of Venezuela recognized her as acting president.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from the territory of the state.
