On January 6, Bruno Sassi, head of communications at the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), explained the lack of sanctions against skiers from the United States after the strikes on Venezuela.

"The answer is simple — if the world reacts to the actions of the United States in the same way as to the actions of Russia, then we will consider this issue," he quotes Expressen as saying.

He added that at the moment the situation is far from such a development.

Russia's representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, said on January 5 that the US actions were giving new impetus to neocolonialism and imperialism, rejected by the peoples of the region. He expressed the hope that international robbery would be assessed using UN mechanisms, and called for the abandonment of double standards.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from the territory of the state. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro.

Maduro was taken to New York Federal Court on January 5 to face charges. In court, he declared his innocence and said that he was still the president of his country. The American court agreed to schedule a visit by consular officers to Venezuela. The judge ordered Maduro to appear in court on March 17 for a hearing.

On January 5, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres announced that the United States had violated international law in Venezuela. Guterres also noted that the future of Venezuela after the US operation remains uncertain and causes great concern.
