- Reuters announced the discussion of the United States with oil companies on oil production issues
The administration of US President Donald Trump will hold meetings with the heads of Exxon Mobil, Chevron and ConocoPhillips this week to discuss the possibility of increasing Venezuelan oil production after the removal of President Nicolas Maduro. This was reported on January 6 by Reuters, citing sources.
"All of our oil companies are ready to invest large sums in Venezuela to rebuild the oil infrastructure destroyed by the illegal Maduro regime," said White House spokesman Taylor Rogers.
The meetings are intended to bring American companies back to Venezuela, where oil production has fallen to about a third of historical levels over the past 20 years due to sanctions and underinvestment.
Currently, only Chevron is producing in Venezuela, while Exxon and ConocoPhillips previously lost assets after the nationalization of oil projects under former President Hugo Chavez.
The day before, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was taken to the New York federal court to face charges. In court, he declared his innocence and said that he was still the president of his country. The American court agreed to schedule a visit by consular officers to Venezuela.
The judge ordered Maduro to appear in court on March 17 for a hearing. Several hundred people gathered in New York outside the Federal District Court of the Southern District in support of Maduro.
On January 3, Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that the President of the republic, Nicolas Maduro, and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken away from the territory of the state. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro.
