- Finnish opposition MPs accused the Foreign Minister of avoiding criticism of the US attack
Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen shies away from criticizing the US attack on Venezuela and the seizure of President Nicolas Maduro. This was announced on January 4 by the chairman of the Finnish opposition party "Left Union" and member of Parliament Minja Koskela.
"For more than a day now, it has been impossible to talk about the obvious, namely: the US attack on Venezuela is contrary to international law. The leadership of the Foreign Policy service is clearly not capable of this. A world order in which big players do whatever they want is not in Finland's best interests. This should also be voiced out loud," the politician wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter)
The Finnish newspaper Iltalehti added that the caution of the Finnish Foreign Ministry was also noticed and condemned by representatives of the Finnish Center party, in particular its chairman Antti Kaikkonen. According to the newspaper, he believes that it is necessary to convene a joint meeting of the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy (TP-UTVA).
On January 3, American leader Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuela, which, according to The New York Times (NYT), killed 80 people. The head of the White House noted that Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.
The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the US leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.
Retired US Army Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Davis said on January 3 that the reasons for the US military attack on Venezuela were completely fabricated.
On January 4, the head of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic, Vladimir Padrino Lopez, announced that the Venezuelan parliament would begin working normally on January 5.
