Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, said on January 4 that the United States could conduct an operation in Ukraine similar to the Venezuelan one.

"There is no legitimate government or president in Ukraine. Its elimination is a matter of the very near future. Let's not pre-empt events. But anything can happen," TASS quoted Medvedev as saying.

According to the deputy chairman of the Security Council, the United States has created a "precedent" by carrying out an operation in Venezuela against President Nicolas Maduro, and this scenario can be repeated in relation to Kiev. Medvedev noted that in the case of Ukraine, "there are much more grounds," although he did not specify which ones.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife Celia Flores were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

The American leader later stated that there was extensive evidence of Maduro's alleged crimes. So, the president of Venezuela, according to his information, personally supervised the activities of the Cartel de los Soles (cartel of the suns), which transported drugs to the United States.

Rallies have begun in New York against the backdrop of the start of the US military operation in Venezuela and the detention of Maduro. The footage shows local residents waving Venezuelan flags.
