The United Nations (UN) is not capable of influencing events such as the US strikes on Venezuela. This was announced on January 4 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy head of the Russian Security Council.

"Unfortunately, the UN is unable to influence such events. And not "recently," but since its creation," TASS quoted Medvedev as saying.

According to him, the organization's resolutions have never forced the parties to lay down their arms or stop the genocide. Medvedev stated that the founding documents of the United Nations remained largely "well-intentioned." He added that the world needs effective mechanisms of international law to ensure the safety of billions of people.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife Celia Flores were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

The American leader later stated that there was extensive evidence of Maduro's alleged crimes. So, the president of Venezuela, according to his information, personally supervised the activities of the Cartel de los Soles (cartel of the suns), which transported drugs to the United States.

Rallies have begun in New York against the backdrop of the start of the US military operation in Venezuela and the detention of Maduro. The footage shows local residents waving Venezuelan flags.
