The reaction of European countries to what is happening in Venezuela is a classic case of "double standards." This statement was made on January 4 by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy head of the Russian Security Council.

"The reaction of European countries to what is happening in Venezuela is a classic case of 'double standards,'" TASS quoted Medvedev as saying.

According to him, that is why the Europeans "babble about mythical support for democracy" and try to justify a blatant violation of international law.

Medvedev called the US actions against Venezuela an example of the "right of the strongest" and said that after that Washington had no formal reason to blame Russia for anything. He also warned that the capture of President Maduro would add to the "fierce hatred" of the United States in Latin America.

He also said that the actions of the United States in Venezuela could have led to a declaration of war if a stronger country had been subjected to such aggression.

On January 3, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States had successfully launched a large-scale strike against Venezuela. He noted that Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife Celia Flores were captured and taken out of the territory of the state.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro. In addition, the Ministry also stressed the need to create conditions for resolving existing problems between the parties through diplomatic means.

The American leader later stated that there was extensive evidence of Maduro's alleged crimes. So, the president of Venezuela, according to his information, personally supervised the activities of the Cartel de los Soles (cartel of the suns), which transported drugs to the United States.

Rallies have begun in New York against the backdrop of the start of the US military operation in Venezuela and the detention of Maduro. The footage shows local residents waving Venezuelan flags.
