Colombian President Gustavo Petro said on January 3 that he was not worried about himself after the US capture of his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolas Maduro.

"I'm not worried at all. I have nothing to hide, unlike others," the newspaper El Tiempo quoted him as saying.

According to him, he has devoted ten years to investigating and publicly exposing links between powerful figures and armed drug traffickers.

Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores, were captured and taken out of their country after the United States successfully launched a large-scale strike on Venezuelan territory on January 3. The plane with them landed in New York. The Russian Foreign Ministry called on the American leadership to release Maduro.

US President Donald Trump later said there was extensive evidence of Maduro's alleged crimes. In addition, he also threatened the President of Colombia. He pointed to the problem of cocaine production in Colombia and its subsequent entry into the United States market.
